I was having a conversation with my 4 and a half year old and I called her my sweetheart. She smiled. I asked her what does sweetheart mean. She answered, “You love me.”
I then asked her what does love mean. And she said without hesitation, “My Heart is in Your Heart.”
Quite profound !
On year later, when she was 5 and a half she picked a “gem” off her shoe, gave it to me and quietly said “This is for My Heart is in Your Heart.”

Verse 1
You leave your blue coat by my kitchen door
Rain still ticking softly on the floor
You tell me every worry by its name
I hold the pieces till they fit again
Pre-Chorus
When the room gets small
When the hard days start
I know where to find you
You know where I am
Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a lock
Every road I take returns
To the place where you are
If the whole world comes apart
We will meet it hand in hand
My heart is in your heart
And I know you understand
Verse 2
There’s coffee cooling beside the sink
Two quiet minutes while we watch and think
You smile at me before the words arrive
That little spark says we are still alive
Pre-Chorus
When the room gets small
When the hard days start
I know where to find you
You know where I am
Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a lock
Every road I take returns
To the place where you are
If the whole world comes apart
We will meet it hand in hand
My heart is in your heart
And I know you understand
Bridge
No perfect promise, no carefully drawn plan
Just your steady fingers closing round my hand
Let tomorrow bring whatever it will bring
I have your name, and you have everything
Final Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a lock
Every road I take returns
To the place where you are
If the whole world comes apart
We will meet it hand in hand
My heart is in your heart
And I know you understand
Outro
My heart is in your heart
That is where I stand
Verse 1
You leave your blue coat by my kitchen chair
A little rain still caught inside the seams
I watch you turn the ordinary air
Into the safest place I’ve ever been
Pre-Chorus
When the day has taken more than I can give
You put your hand in mine and I remember how to live
Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a door
Every road I’ve wandered
Led me to what I’m holding for
If the whole world pulls us apart
I’ll know exactly where you are
My heart is in your heart
And I don’t need anything more
Verse 2
We count the coins beside the grocery list
You draw a little sun beside my name
Love isn’t some impossible wish
It’s you saving me the ripest peach again
Pre-Chorus
And when the night gets heavy on the window glass
You say tomorrow’s waiting, so we let the hard hours pass
Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a door
Every road I’ve wandered
Led me to what I’m holding for
If the whole world pulls us apart
I’ll know exactly where you are
My heart is in your heart
And I don’t need anything more
Bridge
Let the seasons change the paint upon the walls
Let our hands grow older answering each other’s calls
I will meet you in the small things, day by day
In every quiet choice we make to stay
Final Chorus
My heart is in your heart
Like a key inside a door
Every road I’ve wandered
Led me to what I’m holding for
If the whole world pulls us apart
I’ll know exactly where you are
My heart is in your heart
And I don’t need anything more
Outro
Your blue coat by the kitchen chair
My whole life waiting there
